Graduate School of Graduate School of Agriculture Diploma Policy (4-year Doctoral Program: Cooperative Division of Veterinary Sciences)
The degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine will be awarded to students who have acquired the advanced and broad-based specialized knowledge and research capabilities necessary to comprehensively analyze and evaluate various issues in the field of veterinary medicine both in Japan and overseas, and to solve them from a veterinary perspective.
Degrees are awarded to students who have acquired the skills of veterinary clinical science, which allows them to practice advanced veterinary medicine for a variety of animal species; highly specialized veterinary hygiene science, which protects food safety and security with a focus on animal and public health; basic veterinary medicine, which forms the foundation of these fields and practices cutting-edge basic research; and interdisciplinary science, which operates at the border between these and other academic fields.
1) Individuals who possess a high level of specialized knowledge and research skills in the veterinary care of industrial animals and companion animals, and who practice advanced veterinary medicine and clinical research as clinical veterinarians.
2) Individuals who possess a high level of expertise and research capabilities in animal health and public health, and who can be leaders in the fields of government and research to protect food safety and security in Japan and overseas.
3) Individuals who possess a high level of specialized knowledge and research capabilities in basic animal medicine, which is the foundation of veterinary medicine, and who practice cutting-edge research at research institutes and companies in Japan and overseas.
4) Individuals who have a high level of specialized knowledge and research ability that can contribute to the development of interdisciplinary science in fields that are different from those listed above, and who can contribute to the development of science.
Specifically, students are required to acquire the following abilities.
A) To acquire the basic grounding, research ethics, and communication skills as a doctoral researcher based on the philosophy of contributing to the health and welfare of humans and animals set forth in Cooperative Division of Veterinary Sciences.
B) To acquire highly specialized advanced veterinary knowledge and practical research skills that are indispensable for conducting research as a doctoral researcher who can contribute to the provision of advanced veterinary care, human and animal health, food safety, and the development of advanced research.
C) Acquire the latest research knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine and related fields, which is one of Cooperative Division of Veterinary Sciences 's strengths.
D) To link the skills acquired with social needs in the field, to be able to imagine how the research skills they have cultivated can be returned to society, and to acquire the ability to express them and the leadership skills.
Graduate School of Graduate School of Agriculture Curriculum Policy (4-year Doctoral Program: Cooperative Division of Veterinary Sciences)
Based on the philosophy of contributing to the health and welfare of humans and animals, Cooperative Division of Veterinary Sciences developed an educational curriculum to foster internationally competent individuals who can contribute to the provision of advanced veterinary medical care, human and animal health, food safety, and the development of cutting-edge research, and to foster research leaders who will lead veterinary medicine not only in Japan but also around the world.
1) In order to foster the basic knowledge, research ethics, and communication skills required of researchers, we will establish common foundational subjects and provide omnibus-style lectures or seminar-based teaching in which all Faculty Member participate.
2) To provide students with the opportunity to acquire advanced veterinary medicine, we will offer course subjects (lectures) and provide individualized guidance in a seminar format by the main Supervisor and first and second assistant Supervisor.
3) In order to cultivate the research skills, such as the highly specialized knowledge and practical research techniques, which are essential for carrying out research, we will establish research guidance subjects and provide individual research guidance by the main Supervisor and the first and second Supervisor.
4) In order to acquire research capabilities with a broad perspective that also focuses on academic fields related to veterinary medicine, we will offer interdisciplinary veterinary medicine courses and hold omnibus-style lectures with the participation of many Faculty Member.
5) In order to learn how to give back to society the research skills that they have cultivated, they will have advanced practical courses at external institutions, undergo internships where veterinarians are active, make presentations at academic conferences both in Japan and overseas, and conduct collaborative research through studying abroad.
In order to develop engineers, researchers and educators who have acquired the abilities set out in the diploma policy, students are graded by exams and reports for lectures, and by reports and oral presentations for experiments, practical training and exercises. Exam grades for course subjects are expressed in five grades: S, A, B, C and D, with S, A, B and C being passes and D being a fail. Students who pass are awarded the appropriate number of credits. In addition, for dissertations, the examination criteria and methods are clearly stated, and the dissertation examination and final examination are conducted rigorously by the Dissertation Examination Committee based on theses.
