About University Evaluation
Information about university evaluations is available here.
What is university evaluation?
University evaluation was previously a "duty of effort" for each university, but with the amendment of the School Education Act in November 2002, it became legally mandatory for all universities, junior colleges, and technical colleges to carry out Self-Assessment and undergo Certified Evaluation and Accreditation. Furthermore, from April 1, 2004, national universities became national university corporations, and it was institutionalized that they would be evaluated by the National University Corporation Evaluation Committee established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Under the above evaluation system, national universities will evaluate the status of their various activities from various angles and work to effectively implement the PDCA cycle in order to improve the standards of their education and research.
The School Education Act (Article 109, Clause 1) stipulates that "In order to contribute to the improvement of the standard of education and research, universities shall, as stipulated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, conduct their own inspections and evaluations of their education and research, organization and management, as well as the status of their facilities and equipment, and shall make the results public." At our university, we classify university evaluations as follows and conduct them in a planned manner.
National University Corporation Evaluation
The "National University Corporation Evaluation" is an evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's National University Corporation Evaluation Committee at the end of the fourth year of Medium-term Objective period and at the end of Medium-term Objective period in order to investigate and analyze the overall progress of each corporation in terms of its education and research activities, business operations, financial status, etc., against its Medium-term Objective and Medium-term Plan. Each corporation is required to undergo this evaluation.
However, for matters related to education and research, an evaluation will be requested from National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education Incorporated Administrative Agency, and the results will be respected.
