オーストラリア・メルボルン大学Ross Garnaut名誉教授を訪問しました
Visit from Professor Emeritus Ross Garnaut, University of Melbourne, Australia
メルボルン大学のRoss Garnaut先生は、オーストラリア、アジア、太平洋地域における開発、経済政策、国際関係の政策分析と実践を中心にキャリアを積まれた経済学者です。これまでに、大学、企業、政府、その他オーストラリアおよび国際機関で要職を歴任されました。さらに、西オーストラリア銀行、オーストラリア第一次産業銀行、ビクトリア州アルミニウム精錬所など、オーストラリア国内外の大企業の取締役会長も務められました。
今回私がGarnaut先生を訪問した目的は、オーストラリアにおけるグリーンエネルギー生産および農業に関係する技術開発について、日本との国際連携の道を広げることです。オーストラリアではこれまでの石炭採掘等化石燃料に関する事業から、持続可能なエネルギー生産に大きく舵を切っています。その中で、植林事業やアグロフォレストリーによるエネルギーと食料生産の連動、グリーン水素・窒素肥料の生産、バイオマスを熱源や原料とするバイオ炭生産などを総合的に進める事業について、具体的な方針を共有しました。長時間に及ぶミーティングには、オーストラリアの食料、エネルギー関連企業である、Energreen Nutrition社やSuperpower社のスタッフ、メルボルン大学関係者なども参画し、日本企業や東京農工大学との事業連携について前向きに協議することができました。
Professor Ross Garnaut of the University of Melbourne is an economist whose career has focused on policy analysis and practice in development, economic policy, and international relations in Australia, Asia, and the Pacific. He has held senior positions in academia, business, government, and other Australian and international organizations. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of major Australian and international companies, including the Bank of Western Australia, the Australian Bank for Primary Industries, and the Aluminium Refinery of Victoria.
The purpose of my visit to Dr. Garnaut is to broaden the avenues for international collaboration with Japan in the development of technologies related to green energy production and agriculture in Australia. Australia has made a major shift from coal mining and other fossil fuel-related businesses to sustainable energy production. In this context, specific policies were shared regarding projects that comprehensively promote the linking of energy and food production through afforestation projects and agroforestry, the production of green hydrogen and nitrogen fertilizers, and biochar production using biomass as a heat source and raw material. The long meeting was attended by staff from Energreen Nutrition and Superpower, Australian food and energy companies, as well as representatives from the University of Melbourne, and was a positive opportunity to discuss business collaboration with Japanese companies and TUAT. The meeting was a positive experience for the participants.
