As the state of emergency in response to the novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) was lifted in Japan on May 25, 2020, we have announced a notice regarding TUAT’s policies for COVID-19 control on May 27. According to this, the campus entry restrictions will be lifted from June 15. Based on the TUAT’s policies for COVID-19 control, Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering established “Policies of Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering on Activity Restrictions for Preventing the Spread of COVID-19” on May 27. In this, we have clarified the policies on activities for each restriction level in terms of research activities, lectures, students’ extra-curricular activities, etc.; and the restrictions can be lifted or tightened step by step according to the conditions of COVID-19 spread. Currently, the activity restriction level is Level 4; and on/after Monday, June 1, we plan on lowering the level to Level 3.
Our correspondence for research activities, lectures, students’ extra-curricular activities, etc. is as follows.
1) Research activities
From Monday, June 1, restrictions on research activities will be relaxed according to the activity restriction level. For example, at Level 3, in principle, students who can commute to school without using public transportation will be affected; at Level 2, students who commute by public transportation while adopting staggered hours of commuting will be affected. Regarding resuming the research activities, students’ concerns will be taken as top priority. Resuming of research activities will be allowed on the premise that the supervisors/advising professors accurately explain to the students the measures, etc. on avoiding the three conditions (3Cs) that facilitate the transmission of infectious disease (closed spaces, crowds, and close contact); and that the students take “Survey on Resuming Research Activities” online. Until Sunday, June 14, a “Campus Entry Permit” signed by a supervisor/advising professor is still required when entering the campus, as announced before.
2) Lectures
During the first quarter (until the end of July), in principle, lectures will continued to be held online. If the activity restriction level becomes Level 2 or lower (presumably when restrictions on travelling across borders between prefectures are lifted for Tokyo), face-to-face lectures among some of the courses with relatively small-number of students may be conducted while taking utmost precaution for infection spread. Even in this case, online lectures for those students who cannot commute to school will be provided. For face-to-face lectures, the schedules will be released on/after June 3 sequentially. Also, even for courses conducted by online lectures, if the activity restriction level becomes Level 2 or lower, final examinations at the end of the term may be conducted in a classroom. Important information to students will be uploaded on the TUAT website or WEB Bulletin Board. Please check them regularly.On another note, the periods for course registration from Monday, June 1 to Friday, June 12 (course registration confirmation: Tuesday, June 16 - Thursday, June 18) will remain the same. Even if you have registered on Google Classroom, if not registered on academic information system (SPICA), credits will not be obtained. Please do not forget your course registration.
3) Extra-curricular activities
Restrictions on extra-curricular activities, etc. involving Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering will be lifted conditionally if the activity restriction level becomes Level 2 or lower. According to the Notice announced by TUAT Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Response Headquarter on May 27, extra-curricular activities can be resumed if a "Request for Extracurricular Activities" is submitted to the office of the Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering and approved, with the approval of the professors in charge of the activities. However, please be sure to avoid the three conditions (3Cs), such as by postponing the new student welcome parties.
As explained above, at Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering, restrictions on research activities, lectures, students’ extra-curricular activities, etc. will change step by step, by reflecting on the conditions of COVID-19 spread and activity restriction levels. Details of the activity restriction levels will be uploaded on the Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering websites. Please check for your reference.
The teaching/administrative staff at Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering will continue to support your study as a team.
