Faculty of Agriculture Field Science Center

The Field Science Center was founded in April 2000 with the aim of establishing the multidisciplinary field of study called field science at TUAT, and is dedicated to five areas of education—resource and material recycling, the natural environment, wild animal conservation and management, agriculture and forestry in semi-mountainous areas, and urban agriculture. Eight diverse fields distributed across a 100-kilometer area of Tokyo—including virgin forest, secondary forest, farmland and an urban green zone—are utilized as the Field Museum. The Field Science Center pursues education and research through the fusion of broad perspectives and techniques from various fields—including environmental science, biological production science, forestry science, ecology and veterinary medicine—with the aim of exploring the ideal relationship between people and nature, resolving food and resource challenges, and creating a recycling-oriented society.

Faculty of Agriculture Animal Medical Center

An animal referral hospital in western Tokyo, the Animal Medical Center (renamed on July 1, 2008) is adding the facilities and equipment to meet advanced veterinary care needs created by increasing pet ownership in recent years, and completed construction of a new hospital at the end of May 2008.
The center provides medical care to outpatient animals, which gives faculty members and students in the Faculty of Agriculture’s Cooperative Department of Veterinary Medicine clinical research and education opportunities.
The center’s new hospital is set up to enable systematic care, with new and additional equipment being added to the existing CT and MRI scanners.
Care focuses on small animals, and is divided into general medicine (internal medicine and surgery) and areas of specialization such as neurology, dermatology, otolaryngology, oncology, clinical theriogenology and cardiology. Faculty from the Cooperative Department of Veterinary Medicine as well as center full-time faculty and technicians provide care, as do students and interns under the instruction of faculty members as part of their education.
The center also contributes to research conducted by graduate students in Gifu University’s Doctoral Course of the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences.

Faculty of Agriculture Scleroprotein and Leather Research Institute

Scleroprotein and Leather Research Institute is the unique research institute on the world, to study the function of the extracellular matrix (collagen, elastin, keratin etc). Collagen is the main extracellular matrix protein that prepare the cell condition. Cosmetic collagen product protects and moisturizes the skin. The administration of functional food containing hydrolyzed collagen improve the ultraviolet irradiated skin. This Institute study the function of extracellular matrix that to develop new applications of biomaterial.
In order to comprehensively study, this institute collaborate with other research institute unions (Tokyo Metropolitan Leather Technology Center, Nippi Research Institute of Biomatrix, Nipponham Research and Development Center).

Education and Research Center for Frontier Agricultural Science, Faculty of Agriculture

Established in June 2008, the Education and Research Center for Frontier Agricultural Science primarily promotes frontier agricultural science research and development and applies frontier agricultural science in undergraduate and graduate education at the university.
With the main members of its faculty from the Faculty of Agriculture and Graduate School of Agriculture—who also serve as supervisors and vice supervisors in charge of project research at the facility—the Education and Research Center for Frontier Agricultural Science engages in pioneering large-scale research projects. It also holds symposiums and other events to transmit the results of these projects, engaging in a wide variety of activities to use these results not only in education and further research but also to contribute to improving society.

Faculty of Agriculture Research and Education Center for Prevention of Global Infectious Diseases of Animals

The Research and Education Center for Prevention of Global Infectious Diseases of Animals was established in April 2011 to find ways to eradicate internationally significant infectious livestock diseases such as hoof-and-mouth disease.
The center is comprised of four divisions—the Important Animal Infectious Disease Research Division, Infectious Disease Epidemiology Division, Animal Infectious Disease Economic Analysis Division, and Planning and Coordination Division. In addition to overseas research and developing advanced and effective technologies, the center cultivates talented individuals with extensive knowledge of major infectious livestock diseases. Its aim is to develop a system for effectively suppressing the outbreak of infectious diseases across national borders together with neighboring Asian nations by conducting communicable disease control activities in regions where hoof-and-mouth disease is indigenous or prevalent.
The center covers research and education in the fields of veterinary epidemiology, veterinary hygiene, epidemiology, livestock hygiene economics and international infectious disease control theory. It also engages in collaborative research with overseas research institutions and universities concerned with the control of serious communicable diseases; lectures and practical education for students, interns and exchange students; surveys and research on hoof-and-mouth disease and other major infectious diseases; and social activities such as university extension lectures.
