Institute of Engineering [Research Institution]
Institute of Engineering Introduction of [Research Organization].
Message from the Dean

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology The Graduate School Institute of Engineering was reorganized into the Institute of Engineering Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology Graduate School of Science and Technology in 2010 as the predecessor of the Research Institute of Symbiotic Science and Technology, which was established when the university was incorporated as a national university in 2004, and since 2010 it has been focusing on education and research in the field of engineering and interdisciplinary fields with other academic fields, while paying attention to academic development and social demands. We have promoted creative research based on free thinking. There are nine departments in the research institute: "Division of Biotechnology and Life Science", "Division of Applied Chemistry", "Division of Advanced Mechanical Systems Engineering", "Division of Advanced Applied Physics", "Division of Advanced Electrical and Electronics Engineering", "Division of Advanced Information Technology&Computer Science", "Division of Advanced Health Science", "Division of Mathematical Sciences" and "Division of Language and Culture Studies", and Faculty Member of Institute of Engineering belong to these research organizations. In addition, each Faculty Member concurrently serves as an educational organization, each department and major, making it possible to build a fluid educational system.
As a global trend, the values of society have shifted rapidly from economy to ecology in the last decade or so. At Institute of Engineering, we are leading the way in the interdismal field of engineering and agriculture, which is our specialty, and are taking on the challenge of solving global issues such as food, carbon neutrality, energy, robotics, AI, and life sciences, and conducting cutting-edge research to create a better future. Institute of Engineering also focuses on basic research, and is characterized by the development of large-scale research from the elucidation of scientific theories to social implementation.
Even as university management becomes increasingly difficult nationwide, the Institute of Engineering of Waseda University would like to support a system aimed at maximizing research effort and take measures so that each Faculty Member can fully demonstrate its high research capabilities. Based on the university's basic philosophy, we advocate "Becoming a world-leading research university that turns the earth around the world: Brightening with people," and based on the original research of each Faculty Member based on free ideas, we will practice the creation of knowledge that will lead to the solution of global social issues by uniting the Institute of Engineering and Institute of Agriculture, which are the greatest features of our university. In addition, in order to enhance the global presence of the University and Institute of Engineering, we will actively support publications in international academic journals and implement measures for international exchange.
This land of Koganei is not only a school city, but also a land of spring water that retains the remnants of Musashino. As a fountain of knowledge that never dries up, our university Institute of Engineering will constantly provide new value and illuminate a corner of the international community.
