President, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology

Nobufumi Nakamura

Regarding the introduction of "100-minute classes" from fiscal year 2027.

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology We have decided to change the class duration per session from the current 90 minutes to 100 minutes starting April 2027 .

Starting from the 2027 academic year, each class time will be 100 minutes per session for all Faculty & Graduate Schools, including current students . Regarding the number of classes, for courses currently offered in 15 sessions (such as 2-credit lecture courses or 1-credit seminar courses), there are 14 sessions in total, and for courses currently offered in 8 sessions (such as 1-credit lecture courses), there are 7 sessions in total* .

*The number of sessions offered may vary depending on the department and teaching format, so please check the syllabus for details.

1. Purpose of introducing 100-minute lessons

① By shortening the class periods for the first and third semesters, students will have more time for extracurricular activities such as studying abroad, internships, and volunteer work, as well as for independent learning .

② By shortening the number of school weeks, we can reduce the number of classes held on public holidays compared to before .

③ Increasing the class time by 10 minutes makes it easier to incorporate diverse teaching methods, such as interactive and problem-solving approaches , thereby improving the quality of education.

*The number of classes held on public holidays may vary depending on the day of the week the public holiday falls on each academic year.

2. Class schedule from fiscal year 2027 onwards

The class schedule for the 2027 academic year and beyond will be changed as follows:

(1) Class hours from the 2027 academic year onward (departments and majors excluding Faculty of Agriculture Cooperative Department of Veterinary Medicine, Graduate School of Agriculture Cooperative Division of Veterinary Sciences, and Graduate School of Engineering Department of Industrial Technology and Innovation)

(2) Class Hours from Fiscal Year 2027 onward (Faculty of Agriculture Cooperative Department of Veterinary Medicine, Graduate School of Agriculture Cooperative Division of Veterinary Sciences)
