FAO, based in Rome, is one of the UN specialized agencies established by intergovernmental agreements around the world, and approved by the UN General Assembly, which has concluded a partnership agreement with the UN Economic and Social Council. FAO provides information and a forum for discussion on global food production, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and offers various recommendations and development assistance.

FAO places importance on collaboration with universities and research and educational institutions, and our university is the first university in Japan to have signed an MOU with FAO, and through this agreement, we have been continuously collaborating with them through internships, lectures, etc. In collaboration with the FAO Office in Japan (Director Charles Mbuli Boliko), we are implementing an agroforestry project and working closely together.

On Wednesday, November 7 and Thursday, November 8, 34 students (26 TUAT, 1 from Ibaraki University, 1 from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and 6 from private companies) attended the lecture on the theme of "FAO, Global Food Security and Nutrition" as Special Lecture IV on Innovation Promotion IV, which is a regular subject of United Graduate School of Agricultural Science. FAO's mission and activities, the current situation in the world of food security and nutrition and Asia, changes and latest developments in the agriculture and food sectors, and FAO's employment opportunities for graduate students and recent graduates were introduced, giving participants the opportunity to connect their research and academic work and think about their future careers in today's global society.
Dr. Divine Nganje Njie gave the following message to the students. "I am grateful for the opportunity to speak at world-renowned universities, and it is very important to know development issues such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change, rapid urbanization and changes in food systems, and the relationship between global food security and nutrition."
