Wishing to enroll in an undergraduate program at TUAT

Undergraduate Students

STEP 1. Since most of the undergraduate courses at our university are basically taught in Japanese, please acquire the ability to attend and complete courses in Japanese.
STEP 2. Check department information on TUAT website and decide which department you would like to apply to.
STEP 3. Check the application requirements in our university's Admissions webpage
STEP 4. If you meet the eligibility requirements, apply and take the entrance examination.
STEP 5. If you pass the entrance examination, you will enroll in our university as an undergraduate student.

Admissions and Application Information

Wishing to study at Graduate School of TUAT

Graduate Students

STEP 1. Check your eligibility for the entrance examination at the university's admissions application guideline.
STEP 2. Find your prospective TUAT supervisor (academic advisor) related to the research field you want to study using the university's researcher database.​ ​
STEP 3. Contact your prospective TUAT supervisor to express your intention to apply to the graduate school and ask whether their lab can accept you.
STEP 4. If you receive a provisional acceptance, apply and take the entrance examination.
STEP 5. If you pass the entrance examination, you will be admitted to the university as a graduate student.

Admissions and Application Information

Wishing to enter graduate school (but I need time to prepare)

Research Students Research Period: Up to 2 Years

STEP 1. Find your prospective TUAT supervisor (academic advisor) related to the research field you want to study using the university's researcher database.
STEP 2. Contact your prospective TUAT supervisor to express your intention to become a research student and ask whether their lab can accept you.
STEP 3. If you receive a provisional acceptance, proceed your application according to the instructions from your prospective TAUT supervisor.

【Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology】Research students and Non-Degree Students

I am currently affiliated with another university and would like to gain research experience at a Japanese university for a short period.

Wishing to study as an exchange student at TUAT

Exchange students Study Abroad Period: Approximately 1 semester (4-5 months)

Step 1. Check whether your university is a partner university of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
Step 2. If your university is our partner university, contact the person in charge of an student exchange program at your university or department about applying for the student exchange program.
Step 3. If there is an internal selection at your university, apply and be selected as a student for the student exchange program.
Step 4. Obtain application information for the TUAT semester (student exchange) program through the person in charge of your university and prepare the documents.

Step 5. Apply for an application for Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology by the deadline (usually the end of April) through the person in charge of your university.
Step 6. Once you are notified of your acceptance of the program, follow the instructions of the person in charge to prepare for participation in the program.
Step 7. Arrive in Japan around September as an exchange student to attend lectures and conduct research activities.
Step 8. After returning to your home country, go through the procedures for credit recognition for the courses you are enrolled in at your home university.

*The student exchange program is only available to undergraduate students from partner universities.

Student Exchange Programs

Wishing to audit a course

Special Auditing Students Audit Period: up to 1 year

Step 1. Develop the ability to attend and understand lectures at this university.
Step 2. Check the syllabus or the lists of English courses offered at our university to understand the course content and language of instruction, and decide which lectures you would like to attend.
Step 3. Contact your home university, obtain the necessary documents through them, and complete the required paperwork.
Step 4. Obtain a nomination from your home university and submit the application to Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology through your university’s coordinator.
Step 5. If you receive a preliminary acceptance from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, proceed with the necessary procedures.

Special Auditing Students

Wishing to do research

Special Research Students Research Period: within 1 year

Step 1. Use  the university's researcher database to find your prospective TUAT supervisor (academic advisor) related to the research field you want to study.
Step 2. Contact your prospective supervisor at TUAT to inquire whether their laboratory is able to accept you.
Step 3. If you receive a provisional acceptance, follow instructions of your prospective TUAT supervisor to proceed your application.

*Applications can only be accepted from graduate students.

Special Research Students

Short-Term Research Students Research Period: Less than 3 months

Step 1. Find your prospective TUAT supervisor (academic advisor) related to the research field you want to study using the university's researcher database.
Step 2. Reach out the prospective TUAT supervisor to let he/she know that you would like to do research activities for a short period of time, and confirm whether his/her laboratory accepts you.
Step 3. If you receive a provisional acceptance, submit application documents to your home university and receive a recommendation from your home university.

*For Faculty of Agriculture, only undergraduate students from TUAT's overseas partner universities are eligible.
