About Graduate School of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science
Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology is a research university that has been selected for the 2023 "Project for Strengthening and Promoting Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities (J-PEAKS)" . Based on the principle of "Mission Oriented Research and Education giving Synergy in Endeavors toward a Sustainable Earth", the university as a whole aim to establish sustainable future societies by promoting science and technology innovation that is useful to society and producing leaders and professionals. Under the leadership of President, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, which has a unique two-faculty system in Japan that combines agriculture and engineering, aims to become a world-leading research university that respects all those who strive to show the ideal state of the next era and maximize the value of people intellectually and socially through scientific inquiry in the fields of agriculture, engineering, and their interdisciplinary fields. This is one of the key visions of creating an internationally outstanding graduate school and strengthening the foundation of the education and research environment.
Currently, at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, "Information" in the fields of engineering and agriculture is as one of the pillars of education and research in Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Graduate School of Engineering and Agricultural Engineering and Agro-Food informatics Course in the Graduate School of Agriculture respectively. The former is engaged in education and research with the aim of fostering highly innovative IT professionals. The latter is engaged in education and research with the aim of fostering professionals capable of constructing sustainable food production systems using ICT and advanced sensing technology. While each major promotes interdisciplinary efforts, the university has a mission to develop global, highly skilled professionals who can solve new contemporary social issues by linking and fusing measurement science, computational science, and data science together, utilizing AI, mathematics, and data science methods, and leading the way in creating new knowledge.

To achieve this, it is necessary to establish a graduate school with advanced interdisciplinary education and research as one of its pillars. Therefore, in April 2025, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology will establish the Department of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science in the Graduate School of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science (master's program), which will combine the strengths of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in the fields of food and environment, resources and energy, and life sciences (health and welfare) with "education and research capabilities related to information, digital, AI, mathematics, and data science." By doing so, the program aims to develop highly skilled global professionals who can work on the creation of the next generation of information and digital future society by developing new cross-sectoral fields to solve social issues from the perspective of collaboration between agriculture and engineering.
