8. Tourist attractions

  • The Parade of Hanagasa, a part of Gion Matsuri Festival, is scheduled on July 24th every year, just before the conference.
  • Traditional Noh masks and costumes will be displayed at Kongo Noh Hall on Saturday and Sunday, 25th and 26th of July (the schedule is tentative). Kongo Noh Hall is just one block North of Heian Kaikan. Admission is 1,000 yen. See Wikipedia what Noh is.
  • Kyoto Imperial Palace is on the other side of street of Heian Kaikan. There are English guided tours twice a day, from 10 am and 2 pm. The tour takes about an hour. You must register in advance to attend this guided tour. The tour is free.
  • There are many sightseeing spots in Kyoto. However, there are scattered among center and suburbs of Kyoto. Kaz's recommendation of where you should visit while you stay in Kyoto is here.
