I. General Requirements for Admission
There are three different categories for the admission of international students: Japanese Government (Ministry
of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship students, Foreign Government Scholarship
students, and other students.
① Japanese Government Scholarship students
Japanese Government Scholarship international students typically belong to one of six groups: research
students, undergraduate students, and Japanese language and culture course students, teaching course students,
college of technology students and professional training school students. Only the research and undergraduate
students are admitted to this University. Application for the Japanese Government Scholarship is implemented
through three routes:
(1) Students who apply through and are recommended by the Japanese Embassy in your country are admitted to a
university in Japan as a Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Scholarship student
(government-financed foreign student), taking their specialties and intentions into consideration.
(2) The Japanese Government Scholarship student recommended by the University is admitted to the University
in the same way as the case stated above.
(3) The Japanese Government Scholarship student of the third category is selected from among privately financed
overseas students at the University, and admitted as a Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship student.
Of the students stated above, those who need the Japanese language education are requested to take the 6-
month Japanese language course at their designated university before joining the University.
② Foreign Government Scholarship students
Foreign Government Scholarship students are defined as those who obtain the scholarship from a foreign
government, which has an agreement on collaboration with the Japanese Government. At present, such students
are supported by the Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai, Singapore, UAE, Kuwaiti and Uzbek Governments. The
Japanese Government also cooperates in providing pre-education in Changchun, Jilin in China and Malaysia for
those who plan to enroll in universities.
The University accepts only undergraduate and research students.
③ Other international students
International undergraduate students who are not recipients of any of the scholarships listed above should
apply to take the examination for self-supported international students, while those who are graduate students must
take the entrance examination. Because the list below is only a short summary of the necessary application
requirements, those who intend to apply should refer to the pertinent guidelines for applicants.
