Do you set a fixed number of places for students from each
country? |
 |
|
No. We will accept a total number of eight students from Asian countries.
There is no limit on the number of students per field of major, per
university, per country of origin, etc. |

How much does the scholarship provide? |
 |
|
155,000 yen each month for the period from Oct 2010 to Mar 2011, 157,000 yen each month for the period from Apr 2011 to Mar 2013 (following the scheme for the year 2009 decided Monbukagakusho). However, no scholarship is given in the event that a scholarship grantee takes a leave of absence or fails to attend classes for a considerable period. |

Can I apply for this scholarship if I have studied in Japan (with a scholarship) previously? |
 |
|
It depends on the type of scholarship you received previously. If you have received the Monbukagakusho Scholarship, you will need at least three years of educational or research experience in your home country after having returned from Japan. There is no problem for other kinds of scholarships. |

I am currently a 4th year student and will be graduating soon. Am I eligible to apply? |

If you can graduate by the end of September 2010, you are eligible. |

Can I apply at the same time for scholarship from another university? |
 |
|
You cannot apply for the same kind of scholarship (that is, "Advanced Education Program for Career Development of Foreign Students in Japan") offered by other universities, or any other scholarship offered by Monbukagakusho. |

Can I study anything besides computer and information sciences? |
 |
Yes, you may enrol in any engineering school that is related to the computer and information sciences. More exactly, you may enrol in any one of the following departments: Biotechnology and Life Science, Applied Chemistry, Mechanical System Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences. On the other hand, you are not allowed to study subjects that are very distantly related to applications of the computer and information sciences.

There is a column in the application form which asks for a supervisor and research plan. How do I fill in this part? |

Supervisor: Choose from the List of Supervisors (http://www.tuat.ac.jp/~asiaprog/supervisor/index.html) for two researchers whose fields of research you find interesting. At the time of application, you do not need to contact them.
Research plan: First think about what you plan to research and write that down. You can discuss with the supervisors of your choice after you pass the initial screening (screening by application materials). |

How do I confirm whether you have received my application letter? |
 |
|
Use registered mail and check with the post office. |
|

My 4th year results are not yet available. What should I do? |
 |
|
No problem. Just send us all the results you have at the point of application. However, please bear in mind that you will need all your results when everything is finalized. |

Should I submit my application to my current university? Or should I mail the application letter myself? |
 |

I hear that there is a screening by interview after I pass the initial screening (screening by application materials). Where and when is this interview conducted? |
 |
Time: We are currently making the plans. It will be around the beginning of January 2010.
Place: In the applicants' respective country. We will inform successful candidates of the details. |

Are the interviews to be conducted entirely in Japanese? |
 |
|
Yes, in principle. However, we may also choose to use English. |
|

I read that there is a university entrance exam that we will need to sit for during the Preparatory Japanese Language Training in Japan, what happens if we fail this exam? |
 |
|
You are required to pass this exam in order to stay in this program. You should prepare yourself well for it while attending the Japanese

I will be graduating the year after next year. Will this program still be available then? |
 |
|
Sorry. This program is run for only 3 years. Students for the year 2010 will be the last batch for the program. |

Can I proceed to a doctorate course after I graduate from the program? |
 |
|
You cannot proceed to a doctorate course immediately after you graduate from the program. This program is meant to train talented individuals for the Japanese IT industry. However, after some working experience, you may consider entering graduate school for a doctorate degree. |

What kinds of qualifications can I obtain from participating in this program? |
 |
|
By the end of the program you would have passed the Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination conducted by Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA), Japan, as well as JETRO's Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT). We encourage you to sit for an IT related examination in your own country before you arive in Japan. |

How many years am I expected to be working in Japanese companies? |
 |
|
There is no official statement on this. However, it is understood that most Japanese companies hope for long term employment. |
|

Am I guaranteed a job in Japan when I graduate? |
 |
|
This program includes 3 months of internship training. and there are also various career counselling programs to support students in getting employed when they graduate. However, we do not guarantee employment upon graduation. In order to get the job that you want, your best bet is still to work hard and make careful planning. |

Regarding the "employed in Japanese companies" part, can you define more precisely what "Japanese companies" means? |
 |
|
It can be any company that is operating in Japan. That is, including foreign-owned companies. It can also be a Japanese company that is operating overseas. |

Can I stay in the university's dormitory? |
 |
|
Yes. A single room in the university's dormitory will be secured for all
