Scleroprotein and Leather Research Institute
The Scleroprotein and Leather Research Institute is a unique research facility established to analyze unused scleroprotein (collagen, keratin, and other basal elements that structure a matrix), which is the major part of living bodies, and the functions of related biomolecules needed to utilize them as functional materials.
Unused Scleroprotein is a key element in the formation of an animal body and has a number of biological functions; the biopolymers are used as materials in many daily home necessities. The researchers of this institute research and apply diverse biological functions of unused scleroprotein and are engaged in the research and development of new technologies that will contribute to the clothing, food, cosmetics and regenerative medicine fields and to society as a whole.
The researchers of this institute cooperate with other researchers both inside and outside of the university in the comprehensive study of life and biological resource utilization, and contribute to interdisciplinary education and research by exchanging information with related fields, joint research projects and other activities.
