General Information Media Center
The function of information technologies now has a more significant meaning in the education and research of the university and are no longer the mere tools they once were. To reflect this change, the renaming of the center from General Information Processing Center to its new name "Information Media Center" took place in April of 2002. Under its old name, the goals of the center were to unify the information processing facilities and information networks on both campuses. Under its new name its goals are to maintain and improve the original foundations, focus on high quality information in very specialized areas such as environmental studies, biology, life sciences, chemistry, mechanical engineering, physics, and electronics in addition to supporting and carrying out original research. The Center also aims at reforming the education, research, and office work of the university into a style which fits the age of information technologies. These changes will enable us to open up the lines of communication both internationally as well as with the surrounding communities.
The Center's staff consists of specialists from two areas. One is specialists in the research of high quality information, and the other is specialists in information technologies. The former includes the creation, preservation and maintenance of academic information, and the development of programs serving to open up the lines of communication. The latter field deals with the design of a high quality network system, the research of advanced data processing technologies and the pedagogy of IT skills. In cooperation with both of the graduate schools, faculties, and other education and research institutions, the Information Media Center attempts to solidify its foundations and to promote original and creative research. Moreover, it always makes great efforts to introduce the latest information technologies from outside of the university in order to provide students, faculty, and staff of the university access to the various kinds of information resources.
