Field Science Center

Field Science Center
The Field Science Center, FM Fuchu, has a vast agricultural field (15ha) adjacent to the campus for educational and research purposes and is used for horticulture, crop and dairy farming.

The Field Science Center (FS Center) was built in April 2000 in order to establish the comprehensive academic field of Field Science. It covers the following five educational and research areas: resource and material cycles, natural environment, preservation of wild animals, agriculture and forestry in low mountain areas, and urban agriculture.

The FS Center utilizes various fields (FM Field Museum) , such as natural forests, secondary forests, farm lands, and urban green tracts located within 100 km of the metropolitan area, and integrates diverse views and techniques of environmental science, sciences of biological production, forest science, ecology, veterinary medicine, and others in order to pursue the ideal relationship between nature and human beings. It carries on this education and research with the aim of solving food and resource problems and establishing a resource-recycling society.

At FM Kusaki, research the biological diversity in forest ecosystems, preservation and management of forests, etc.
At FM Tamakyuryo, research by monitoring acid rain in those valuable forests remaining in urban areas, etc.
