The TUAT Task Force for Kabul University Support (for Afghanistan Rebuilding)
Delegation Led by Afghanistans Minister of Higher Education Visits TUAT
On August 5, 2004, Sharif Fayez, Afghanistans Minister of Higher Education, Najibullah Nazif, President of Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry of Higher Education, and Mohammad Akbar Popal, Kabul University Chancellor, visited TUAT.
The delegation visited Japan for a bidding meeting associated with the provision of equipment and materials to Afghanistan through Japanese grants-in-aid.
The meeting included an introduction to the university and its efforts by TUAT President Seizo Miyata, and a discussion of future exchanges with Afghanistan, especially with Kabul University, with which TUAT has concluded an exchange agreement. Participants asked questions and discussed issues regarding the difference between national and private universities and the management and operation of TUAT.
This meeting was also attended by Prof. Kazuo Watanabe of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies and Yasuhiro Yukimatsu, Head of the International Cooperation Policy Office of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The ministers delegation also visited the Koganei campus, saw a demonstration of a robot developed by a student team that won the Idea Award in NHKs University Robot Competition 2004, and enjoyed tours of the Museum of Fiber Science and Technology and the Technology Research Association for Advanced Display Materials (TRADIM).
