Faculty of Agriculture

The Faculty of Agriculture has more than 120 years of history and has established a tradition of its own. At the same time, its operating principle has been to have an enterprising spirit, and always be quick to perceive the needs of society. The faculty has positively reformed its structure, and kept expanding and developing itself.
The Faculty of Agriculture currently has a total of five departments: Biological Production, Applied Biological Science, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Ecoregion Science, and Veterinary Medicine. The following table shows the result of these efforts, demonstrating a diverse range of specialties covering not only agriculture, but also the humanities and social sciences.
This breadth of study is highly beneficial in promoting the educational and research aims necessary for harmonizing the development of analysis and synthesis in the areas of food production, resources, environment, and biological sciences. This is also the most distinctive feature of this faculty. As of April 2004, 1,508 students were studying in the Faculty of Agriculture.
Other features of this faculty are: a system of credit interchange with five national universities in the Tama district, the promotion of international cooperation through contacts with 57 sister universities, and field education utilizing national habitats in the attached institutes outside the campus. The Departments of Biological Production, Applied Biological Science, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, and Ecoregion Science all have a transfer system that admits graduates of colleges of technology and junior colleges. Moreover, the Department of Veterinary Medicine has a transfer system that admits corporate employees with the objective of educating those people who can meet the various needs and can play an active part in satisfying them.
