Fundamental Principles of TUAT

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology has a history of more than 130 years.
Its Faculty of Agriculture is originated with the Agricultural Education Center of the Naito-Shinjuku Branch Office of the Industrial Encouragement Department, Ministry of Home Affairs founded in 1874, and its Faculty of Engineering is originated with the Silkworm Diseases Experimental Section, Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce founded in 1877.

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology has developed as a unique science and technology institution based on the two scientific fields of agricultural science and Engineering that support the fundamental agriculture and industry of Japan across a broad range of areas. The common foundation of agriculture and Engineering is the “synthesis-type science and technology system” which designs, integrates and creates innovative inventions.

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology conducts research in pursuit of the truth based on free ideas around this synthesis-type science and technology system as well as produces learned researchers, engineers and highly specialized professionals who consider, at all times the influence of science and technology on the Earth, society and mankind.

Today, in the 21st century, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology is striving to achieve a society which enables sustainable development based on the legacy of the 20th century, and holds to the fundamental principles of contributing to the advancement of science and technology in harmony with society and the natural environment. It aims also to produce human resources that will execute these principles through education and research based on free ideas in agriculture, engineering and their integrated fields. In other words, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology adheres to the motto “MORE SENSE: Mission Oriented Research and Education giving Synergy in Endeavors toward a Sustainable Earth”, and endeavors to resolve the issues that mankind faces in the 21st century.

Education

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology does not limit its activities to the induction of knowledge, but nurtures students' capabilities to explore knowledge, capabilities to pursue objectives as well as to resolve problems, as well as cultivate human resources with a deep intelligence, broad cosmopolitanism and high ethics.

Research

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology promotes the creation of new first-rate knowledge from basic research in pursuit of truth applicable to “mission-oriented research” that directly links science and technology and achieves its social responsibility as the base for the transmission of science and technology information.

Social contribution

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology utilizes its human and material resources, participates in the development of academic culture and creation of the scientific education foundation in the local community, and promotes cooperation and exchange with NGOs, NPOs, research institutions and industries and contributes by returning the achievements of education and research to society.

Management

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology meticulously plans its goals and schedules of activities, operates aims optimization tries as an open university and continually improves its organization and activities.
