DIVISION OF CHEMICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
The Division of Chemical Science and Technology was established in
1995, to educate individual students to acquire essential knowledge and
techniques in chemistry and related areas. The Division consists of the
following three departments, each of which extends research and =
education
in highly-advanced and interdiscipliary fields in applied chemistry, and
students can take active part in their research of various subjects of
their interests.
Thus the research scope of this division covers wide areas of chemistry,
chemical engineering, and materials science, ranging from subjects of
atomic and molecular levels to chemical and physical processes or =
phenomena
in structure-function relationships of individual molecules or their
assembly. The final objective of these research involves development of
new materials that possess novel functions and construction of new =
systems
that help human welfare. Our research also aims at development of
technologies for environment protection and clean energy.

Department of Applied Chemistry
-
The aim of this department is to educate individual students to be
scientists or engineerers in the very field of applied chemistry. =
Students
are required to study on chemistry such as organic, inorganic, physical,
and analytical chemistry and biochemistry, including laboratory courses.
The scope of reseach subjects that they deal with covers various aspects =
of
chemistry, ranging from basic problems to applications in the areas of =
the
following chemistry branches. Thus the Department consists of 6 branches =
of
research areas: Organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic =
synthesis,
applied inorganic synthesis, electrochemistry, and applied catalytic
chemistry.

Department of Material Systems Engineering
-
This department studies the mechanism of how the atoms and
molecules are assembled to construct the materials, and how the
material functions evolve in this assembly process. Its purpose
is to obtain the systematic understanding of the fundamental
aspects of material, and to acquire the knowledge and technique
of developing new materials. Special emphasis is put on the
study of novel organic materials, from the standpoint of their
synthesis, analysis, processing, and applications.
-
Department of Chemical Engineering
-
The aim of this department is to educate students as the engineers
having a sense of chemical engineering. Chemical engineers do play a
central role in the design and construction of plants in which chemical,
biochemical and physical changes take place. The chemical engineer
develops the process design of the plant and specifies the performance
of individual item. He or she is closely involved in the operation of
the production process to achieve safe and economic operation and
product quality , while always having to be fully conscious of the need
to minimize the impact of the plant and the manufacturing process on the
environment.
