Faculties and Graduate Schools

Faculty of Technology

The strengths of Faculty of Technology are its challenging spirit and advanced research activities. This faculty has been a leader in science and technology in Japan since the establishment of its forebear, the Silkworm Disease Institute of the former Agriculture and Commerce Ministry.

The doctoral course was established in the Faculty's Graduate School of Technology, and simultaneously, 12 former departments in the undergraduate course were reorganized into 3 larger departments. After 3 further reorganizations, the Faculty of Technology now consists of the following 8 departments: Biotechnology and Life Science, Applied Chemistry, Organic and Polymer Materials Chemistry,Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Computer, Information and Communication Sciences.

The Faculty of Technology is highly regarded for its research activities and is rewarded with numerous research grants from both government and private enterprise. As a result, it provides and excellent research environment equipped with advanced facilities, which is of great benefit to its students. Also, the Faculty is unique in Japan in its acceptance of candidates who have graduated from other institutions, or been engaged in private enterprise, this being done in an effort to promote lifetime education.
